During the holy season of Advent, the Church invites us to prepare our hearts for the coming of Our Divine Savior. The following devotions and novena prayers are offered by Mater Dei Seminary to assist the faithful in prayerful preparation for Christmas.

Ancient Advent antiphons invoking Our Lord under His messianic titles, prayed at Vespers from December 17–23.
Ancient cries of the Church in the final days of Advent:
“Come, Lord Jesus!”
The “O Antiphons” are seven ancient antiphons sung at Vespers from December 17th to 23rd. Each begins with the exclamation “O” and invokes the Messiah under a different prophetic title.
Taken together, the initials of these titles (Emmanuel, Rex, Oriens, Clavis, Radix, Adonai, Sapientia) spell the acrostic ERO CRAS: “Tomorrow I shall come.”
Meditating on them during the final week of Advent unites us with the Church’s longing for the coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
An explanation of the threefold Coming of Our Lord — in the flesh, in the soul, and at the Last Judgment — a beautiful introduction to the spirit of Advent.

When we study the Old Testament prophecies about the Messias, we find the beautiful harmony between the Old and New Testaments. In the Old Testament, we find the promises of God foretold; in the New Testament, we find God’s promises fulfilled.
In order to prepare ourselves worthily for Christmas, let us consider some of the prophecies of the Old Testament to see there their fulfillment in our beloved Savior, Jesus Christ....
